In the heart of Clackamas County, Oregon sits the small community of Estacada. It has a population of around 3000 residents but it has been honored by Budget Travel Magazine as “One of the Best Places You’ve Never Heard Of”. It sits beside such world notables as Italy, Nepal, Brazil, Peru, China and Thailand in its designation.
What really makes this area stand out is that it has been nationally recognized as the “Christmas Tree Capital Of The World.”. This small area harvests over 2.9 million Christmas trees per year.
The small community of Estacada sits close to the thriving metropolitan city of Portland Oregon which is located only 30 minutes away. The town sits at the base of the Clackamas River Gorge and on the outskirts of the Mt. Hood National Forest. It is considered to be the gateway to the Clackamas River Recreation Area. The region is famous for its fishing, hiking, picnicking, camping, boating and snow sports, People come from all over the nation to enjoy what nature has bestowed on such a small region.
Here is a ride from McIver State Park Campground up to Mt Hood. This would make a great ride starting out early in the morning stop by Harmony Bakery for a quick bite and coffee, power up Mt. Hood and breathe in the mountain air. On your way back make sure you’re back in time to stop by Fearless Brewing for Estacada’s famous craft beer.
